Rick Danko. Richard Clare Danko (December 29, 1943 – December 10, 1999) [1] was a Canadian musician, bassist, songwriter, and singer, best known as a founding member of the Band, for which he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.

With the loss of Rick Danko, the 40-year-old musical legend known as The Band has definitely ended. And maybe it is fitting that it should end right here, next to the small village of Woodstock, in manager Albert Grossman's Bearsville complex, where The Band both recorded and performed in their heyday, some 30 years ago.
