The Grand Wazoo is the eleventh album by The Mothers, sixteenth overall by Frank Zappa, released in November 1972. It was written and recorded during Zappa's period of convalescence after being assaulted in December 1971 in London, UK.
A word about Aynsley Dunbar, a rock drummer of unusual skill and taste who adapts his style expertly to the music here. On the title track he drives the ensemble as if he had been born a big-band drummer.

The Grand Wazoo plays out in a pretty excellent manner. In particular Aynsley Dunbar's continues to make the case that he was perhaps Zappa's best drummer, laying down a marvelously roaming drum beat. If I could listen to simply the drum track alone, I'd still probably dig it.
The Grand Wazoo, the longest song on the album, is a funky jam with great horn breaks intersperced to spice things up. Cletus Awreetus-Awrightus is a delightfully pompous number, and Eat That Question boasts some of George Duke and Aynsley Dunbar's best performances anywhere.
