Entstehung
Den Namen „The Revolution“ platzierte Prince zum ersten Mal auf dem Cover seines im Oktober 1982 erschienen Doppelalbum 1999. Damals war noch Gitarrist Dez Dickerson (* 7. August 1955) Mitglied in seiner Begleitband, doch Mitte Mai 1983 verließ er diese und startete eine Solokarriere. Wendy Melvoin ersetzte ihn und am 3. Der Erfolg
When Doves Cry ist für Prince die kommerziell erfolgreichste Singleauskopplung in seinem Heimatland. Der Song wurde im Mai 1984 veröffentlicht und konnte sich fünf Wochen auf Platz eins der US-Singlehitparade halten; über zwei Millionen Singles wurden damals in den USA verkauft. Im Juni 1984 erschien das Album Purple Rain, das sich 24 Wochen auf Platz eins der US-Albumcharts halten konnte. Erst am 19. Im Februar 1986 wurde der Song Kiss als Vorabsingle des Albums Parade veröffentlicht und erreichte Platz eins der US-Singlehitparade. The Revolution is an American band formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1979 by Prince, serving as his live band and later as his studio band. The band's sound incorporated rock, pop, R&B, funk, new wave and psychedelic elements. Along with Prince's other projects, the Revolution helped create the Minneapolis sound.
