Islands is the 11th album by Mike Oldfield, released on 28 September 1987 by Virgin in the UK. Guest singers on the album are Bonnie Tyler, Kevin Ayers, Anita Hegerland, Max Bacon, and Jim Price. A different track list and cover was used for the American edition.
Kevin Ayers (16 August 1944 – 18 February 2013) was an English singer-songwriter who was active in the English psychedelic music movement. Ayers was a founding member of the psychedelic band Soft Machine in the mid-1960s, and was closely associated with the Canterbury scene.

Islands ist ein Studioalbum des britischen Musikers Mike Oldfield aus dem Jahr 1987. Islands ist auch der Titel eines der Lieder. Nach dem Doppelschlag im Jahr 1984 mit Discovery und The Killing Fields, dem Soundtrack zu dem gleichnamigen Film, hatte Oldfield sich eine dreijährige Pause gegönnt.
Kevin Ayers' Whole World was formed around February or March of 1970. They played with some well known bands on the same bills. T Rex were at London Imperial College; in Germany Pink Floyd and Deep Purple played; Floyd also played Hyde Park which drew 20,000 along and was free.
