The National (Metsovian) Technical University of Athens (NTUA; Greek: Εθνικό Μετσόβιο Πολυτεχνείο, National Metsovian Polytechnic), sometimes known as Athens Polytechnic, is among the oldest higher education institutions of Greece and the most prestigious among engineering schools.
The National Technical University of Athens is structured according to the continental European system for training engineers, with an emphasis on solid background. The duration of courses leading, after the acquisition of 300 credit units to a Diploma, of Master’s level, is five years.
NTUA was the first among the country's technology institutes which includes its students' Internship as an integral part of the educational process. The school of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering has incorporated the Internship into its curriculum since approximately 1953, while the School of Rural and Surveying Engineering around 1960.
