It features Carter, Alvin Batiste, David Murray, Jimmy Hamilton. In 1987, Southern Bells was released on Black Saint, featuring the same quartet. Beginning in 2015, some former members of the “Clarinet Summit 1979” group began working together again using the name Clarinet Summit.
The clarinetist’s performances at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Fair always attracted large audiences. His live recording at Snug Harbor in New Orleans is one of the classic recordings available in the early 1990's on the Evolution Hall Label. The albums Batiste recorded with the Clarinet Summit are historic.

Seit 1981 war er Mitglied von John Carters Clarinet Summit mit David Murray und Jimmy Hamilton und auch an dessen Einspielungen (1984, 1987) beteiligt. 1989 war Batiste als Gastmusiker bei Wynton Marsalis’ Album Crescent City Christmas Card beteiligt, 1990 beim Album Ka.l.e.i.d.o.d.u.k.e. von Ernie Wilkins.
