Den Kontakt zu Townsend stellte der Gitarrist Peter Wichers her. Wichers fragte Townsend, ob er das neue Soilwork-Album produzieren wolle und schickte ihm ein Exemplar des Vorgängeralbums A Predator’s Portrait. Kurze Zeit später gab Townsend seine Zusage.
Doch was SOILWORK 2001 mit „A Predator’s Portrait“ abgeliefert haben, versetzte der etwas lahmenden Göteborg-Death-Szene den benötigten Tritt in den Allerwertesten und ließ Szenevorreiter wie IN FLAMES und DARK TRANQUILLITY aufhorchen, da ihnen ein immens starker Konkurrent gewachsen war.
