Tim Lawter played the bass guitar in The Marshall Tucker Band from 1986-2001, touring almost non-stop, recording a slew of albums, appearing in music videos, and living the life of a Southern Rock star. Of course, stepping into the spot formerly occupied by Tommy Caldwell wasn’t always easy.
Bassist Tim Lawter joined in 1987, and the newer members (including newly added, in 1989, keyboardist Don Cameron) had a much greater role on the band's 1990 album, Southern Spirit, released on the Sisapa label. The album marked a return to the band's country and blues roots.

Back home in Spartanburg in 1985, they hired drummer David Allen and bassist Tim Lawter. Stuart Swanlund used to sit on his grandmother’s porch across the street from Doug’s house and listen to the band rehearsing when he was only two years old.
Tim Lawter played bass for The Marshall Tucker Band from the early 1990s until the late 2000s. Lawter’s work with the band spanned numerous albums and tours, contributing to its ongoing legacy in rock and country music.
