Story. The album follows the rise and fall of a singer/musician named Johnny Virgil, whose career follows an arc common to many stars of rock and roll. The narrative introduces a gifted young Johnny dreaming of success, before his fall into the trap of exploitation at the hands of record companies, seduced by fame and substance abuse.
27. Sept. 2017 · Such was the case recently with Kevin Gilbert’s The Shaming of the True, an album that was released back in 2000, four years after Gilbert died. How did such a genius album get made? I went directly to the man who helped make it happen, drummer and all around amazing musician Nick D’Virgilio.
1. Okt. 2020 · Da Gilbert aufgrund seines frühen Todes – er starb 1996 mit nur 29 Jahren – die Arbeit an seinem Opus Magnum nicht vollenden konnte, sprang sein Freund Nick D’Virgilio ein, der damals bei Spock’s Beard.
Spock's Beard drummer Nick D'Virgilio filled in the gaps with his own multi-instrumental skills. The result is quite possibly the greatest indictment of the music business ever created. The Shaming of the True is the album that Bill Hicks might have championed, had he too not died far too early.

4. Jan. 2018 · The Shaming of the True is hilarious, offensive, thought provoking, tragic, and so many other things. Historical Context. Nick D’Virgilio, who many know as the ex-drummer and later frontman for Spock’s Beard and current drummer for Big Big Train, was instrumental in bringing The Shaming of the True to all of us.
