Before starting work on a full-length album, Azor recruited DJ Latoya Hanson (called Spinderella) into Salt-N-Pepa. The ladies worked on the album and in December 1986 the trio's debut album Hot, Cool & Vicious was released, produced by Azor, Salt's boyfriend at the time and the group's manager.
The group's original DJ, Latoya Hanson, had missed several rehearsals and group appearances, and the group was looking for a replacement. Future radio and TV personality Wendy Williams had also auditioned as the DJ.

10. Juli 2021 · DJ Latoya Hanson joined and rounded out the trio, and the single was officially released as “The Show Stoppa (Is Stupid Fresh)” by Pop Art Records, an independent label. The trio landed a recording contract with Next Plateau Records, and their first studio album, Hot, Cool & Vicious, was released in December 1986.
