Black Mafia Life is the second studio album by American hip hop group Above the Law. This album is what would be considered the blueprint of the G-Funk sound similar to Dr Dre's The Chronic. The album was recorded in 1991 into 1992 but was held back due to legal issues with Epic And Dr. Dre's Departure from Ruthless Records.

31. Jan. 2023 · Dr. Dre ’s The Chronic, released in late 1992, defined this era and changed the way gangsta rap was made. But another singular and sadly overlooked achievement during this era was Above the Law’s sophomore album Black Mafia Life, released just a month and a half after Dre’s magnum opus.
Above the Law's second album, Black Mafia Life came out in 1993, a couple of months after Dr. Dre's debut and they establish themselves as a g-funk group here. There's some interesting guest appearances from the likes of 2Pac, MC Ren and Eazy-E, and the album is twice the length of Livin' Like Hustlers, almost.
