29. Aug. 2023 · In 1999 Gaddis released the album Chip Off The Old Block. Along with the Vern Gosdin-penned title track that Gaddis recorded as a tribute to George Jones, the album also includes duets with Porter Wagoner, Leon Rausch of the Texas Playboys, as well as the appropriately-titled “I Fell Off The Wagon” with George Jones.
The earlier form of this phrase is ‘chip of the same block’. The block in question may have been stone or wood. It dates back to at least 1621, when it appears in that form in Bishop (of Lincoln) Robert Sanderson’s Sermons: “Am not I a child of the same Adam … a chip of the same block, with him?”
