Her musical vision is distinctive, mixing a husky voice, economical songwriting, and Burnett’s rootsy production – in combination it often recalls mid-1960s Beatles. Phillips’ later albums are mellower, with hints of pretty folk and the eccentric cabaret of Tom Waits.
