Joe „King“ Oliver (* 11. Mai 1885 in New Orleans, Louisiana; † 10. April 1938 in Savannah, Georgia) war ein US-amerikanischer Kornettist und einer der bedeutendsten Musiker des New Orleans Jazz.
Der 1885 auf einer Plantage in Louisiana geborene Joseph Oliver kam schon als Kind nach New Orleans und jobbte dort anfangs als Aushilfsarbeiter, bevor er in den bekanntesten Bands dieser Stadt, so bis 1918 bei Kid Ory, musizierte. Daraufhin siedelte Oliver nach Chicago.
Joseph Nathan "King" Oliver (December 19, 1881 – April 8/10, 1938) was an American jazz cornet player and bandleader. He was particularly recognized for his playing style and his pioneering use of mutes in jazz.
King Oliver died in Savannah on April 10, 1938, forgotten and impoverished. This volume of King Oliver’s complete recordings in chronological order includes the first two dozen sides by his “Creole Jazz Band”.
