2. Apr. 2024 · Glenn Frey, of the Eagles, was lined up to produce Bonoff’s third album. While it didn’t eventuate, he unearthed the song ‘Personally’. Frey was an avid collector of R&B songs and found a 1978 version of the song recorded by Jackie Moore.
Bonoff learned of the song through Glenn Frey, who was the intended producer of her album Wild Heart of the Young before the job went to Kenny Edwards. Bonoff said Frey was "a great collector of obscure R&B tunes. He used to play me all these really cool [songs]."
“If He’s Ever Near,” “Lose Again,” and “Someone to Lay Down Beside Me” were three of Karla Bonoff’s songs that made the cut to Linda Ronstadt’s 1976 album, Hasten Down the Wind. This resulted in a major spike in Bonoff’s popularity as a singer-songwriter.

Karla Bonoff is the RIAA Gold-certified first album by singer/songwriter Karla Bonoff. It includes several of Bonoff's compositions which had previously been prominently recorded: three by Linda Ronstadt ("Lose Again", "If He's Ever Near", "Someone to Lay Down Beside Me") and one by Bonnie Raitt ("Home" ).
