Paiva was born in Bristol, Rhode Island. In the early 1970s, Paiva was a member of the band the Happeningsand a studio musician. Paiva played with the band the Four Seasons in the mid-1970s, playing on such records as their 1976 song, "December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night)" and 1975's "Who Loves You".
In the 1980s, Paiva married and moved to Germany where he became a music teacher. Over the years, he has made numerous recordings of his own. Before his engagement for The Four Seasons, he was studio guitar player and played from 1970 to 1973 with The Happenings . Paiva moved to Munich, Germany in the 1980's, where he is still active as musician and e.g. as guitar educator.
