About University of Salamanca. Alfonso IX of León wanted to have higher studies in his kingdom and therefore created in 1218 the 'Salamanticae scholas', germ of the current University of Salamanca that now celebrates 800 years of uninterrupted history creating, promoting and disseminating knowledge.
