The recording process marked a departure from the band's first two albums, Love Junk and One Sided Story, which were recorded in ten days and two and a half weeks, respectively, at Todd Rundgren's Utopia Sound Studios in Lake Hill, New York.
4. Mai 2014 · The result of TPOH’s uneasy sojourn in a hellish City of Angels is the appropriately titled The Downward Road. The band’s third album, it’s the first one that wasn’t recorded in New York with producer Todd Rundgren. “It was just time to move on,” says singer/songwriter/guitarist Moe Berg of the split from “the Runt”.
Rundgren tourte von Radiostation zu Radiostation durch die USA, um seine Stücke live zu mischen und dann dem jeweiligen Sender zur Ausstrahlung zu überlassen. 1995 und 1996 moderierte Rundgren eine wöchentliche Radiosendung mit dem Titel The Difference with Todd Rundgren, die von 35 Radiosendern in den USA übernommen wurde.

The Downward Road is the third album by Canadian power pop band The Pursuit of Happiness, released in 1993. The album peaked at #36 on the RPM Canadian Albums Chart. The album cover has several versions with different coloured backgrounds .
Rundgren, who produced TPOH's first two albums, guests on "Love Theme From TPOH," an instrumental that makes a good case against the compact disc's expanded playing time. Otherwise, there's remarkably little filler among The Downward Road 's sixteen songs.
