John Calvin Coolidge, Sr. (* 31. März 1845 in Plymouth Notch , Vermont ; † 18. März 1926 ebenda) war ein US-amerikanischer Farmer, Politiker ( Republikanische Partei ) und Vater des späteren US-Präsidenten Calvin Coolidge , den er auch vereidigt hat.
The senior Coolidge, a man of stern appearance and a pillar of the community, served six years in the Vermont House of Representatives and a term in the Vermont Senate. He also held a variety of local offices from tax collector to peace officer.
Calvin Coolidge drops ‘John’ from his name (although he continues to sign letters to his father ‘J. Calvin Coolidge’ as late as January 10, 1896) In his senior year, Calvin entered an essay contest sponsored by The Sons of the American Revolution, it was open to all seniors of all the colleges of the nation. He won the first prize — a gold medal worth about one hundred and fifty dollars.
