The band was initially formed in 1959, under the name Billy King and the Nightriders, and consisted of the core members Dave Pritchard on rhythm guitar and Roger Spencer on drums, along with vocalist Billy King, bass guitarist Brian Cope, and lead guitarist Al Johnson.

David Pritchard was born on 19 November 1945 in Southampton, Hampshire, England, UK. He was a director and producer, known for Floyd on Britain & Ireland (1988), American Pie (1989) and Once Upon a Mine (1986). He was married to Fiona Johnston and Judith. He died on 13 January 2019.
