A gifted athlete who played water polo in high school and subsequently the Pan American Games and the Olympics, Hind had an ear drum broken while earning a gold medal in the 1967 Pan Am Games. The injury led Hind to develop protective ear flaps on water polo caps, which is now an industry standard.

Hind founded Hind Performance in the early 1970s. The company was an early leader in using Lycra fabric in athletic gear, including bicycle clothing.
