24. Mai 2017 · THE LINCOLN SCHOOL. The Progressive Era (approximately 1890–1920) ushered in some of the most profound changes in American history. For schools, it meant a change in focus from classical to progressive, from mind to matter, from the individual to the society, from God to man.
Originally constructed in 1932 as a schoolhouse for African American children in the Richmond Heights neighborhood, Richmond Terrace was first known as the New Lincoln School. Children in grades five through eight would attend the New Lincoln School, while grades one through four remained in the Old Lincoln School.
Located on North Montgomery Street, the New Lincoln School opened in 1924 as a segregated school for Trenton’s “Negro” students. Containing both elementary and junior high schools, it consolidated students from several other schools in the city where African-American children were educated.
18. Feb. 2022 · The New Lincoln School was built in 1923 and was the fourth and final school built exclusively for African American children until 1943 when two Mothers teamed up with Trenton lawyer Robert Queen known for taking racism head on.
