Zusammen mit Harry Connick Jr. und Habitat for Humanity gründete er Ende 2005 in New Orleans das Projekt Musicians' Village, um in einer Künstlerkolonie Musiker wieder anzusiedeln, denen der Hurrikan Katrina ihr Heim genommen hatte. Das Projekt wurde mit Benefizkonzerten und Spenden unterstützt.

Nun steht die ungarische Volksmusik, die Komponist:innen schon seit Jahrhunderten fasziniert, im Fokus und Branford Marsalis teilt sich die Bühne mit einem herausragenden ungarischen Ensemble. Ursprünglich wollte Marsalis ungarische Lieder – wie mit anderer Musik so üblich in der Szene – »verjazzen«.
