9. Feb. 2017 · The meaning of both forms is the same: John said he would come here tomorrow = John said he will come here tomorrow. The two versions you suggested - John says he will come here tomorrow and John said he would come here tomorrow - are fine.
16. Jan. 2008 · In "cases where something was said in the past about the future" I find will perfectly acceptable and even preferable. He said he will go tomorrow However, I think I would use would if "he" changed his mind in the meantime. ==> What do you mean he's not going? But he said he would go.
16. Nov. 2023 · The main difference between will and would is that would can be used in the past tense but will cannot. Also, would is commonly used to refer to a future event that may occur under specific conditions, while will is used more generally to refer to future events.

Would is used as past tense of will when reporting something said or thought. "She told me that she would go grocery shopping tomorrow, but I told her that I wouldn't be able to go with her." is correctly using would, and it is similar to the following sentences: He said he would be here at eight o'clock.
