Tony Kenning was the original drummer for Def Leppard. Kenning is credit as being the one that changed the spelling of the band's name from Deaf Leopard to Def Leppard.
The band originally consisted of Doubleday (and later Willis) on guitar, Savage on bass guitar after briefly playing guitar, Kenning on drums, Andy Nicholas on bass and Nick Mackley on lead vocals.

24. Sept. 2023 · In November 1978, a week before the band’s two-day session at Fairview Studios in Hull, original drummer Tony Kenning was fired. As bassist Rick Savage explains: “Tony didn’t fancy doing this as much as we did. So a decision had to be made.”
Tony Kenning was the first drummer of Def Leppard, joining the band when they were still called Atomic Mass. He was fired in 1978 for being unreliable and suggested the band name change to Def Leppard.
