Etwa vor 200 Millionen Jahren zerfiel Pangäa in zwei Teile – in Laurasia im Norden und Gondwana im Süden. Die beiden Kontinente zerbrachen später in noch kleinere Stücke. Danach waren Nord- und Südamerika, Afrika, Asien und Europa schon etwa in ihrer heutigen Form zu erkennen.
