The Bar-Kays are an American funk band formed in 1964. The band had dozens of charting singles from the 1960s to the 1980s, including " Soul Finger " (US Billboard Hot 100 number 17, R&B number 3) in 1967, "Son of Shaft" (R&B number 10) in 1972, and " Boogie Body Land " (R&B number 7) in 1980.

Die Band spielte Black Rock, Funk, P-Funk, Disco-Funk, Boogie, Disco, Soul und R’n’B und passte sich damit immer der Tanzmusik ihrer Zeit an. Im Jahr 2011 coverte die Gruppe sogar den Popsong Return of the Mack von Mark Morrison aus dem Jahr 1996.

The Bar-Kays were a successful Memphis instrumental soul group who backed up Stax acts like Otis Redding (when not releasing their own successful recordings.) Unfortunately, tragedy struck in late 1967 when a majority of the members along with Otis Redding died in a plane crash.
