25. Sept. 2022 · Anton Fier is an almost imperceptible but enormously important part of the soundtrack of my life. He was the rhythm machine in my free jazz epiphany: Peter Brötzmann’s März Combo Tentet, a band that brought rock and free jazz together on Brötzmann’s 50th birthday in Wuppertal.
John Anton Fier III (June 20, 1956 – September 14, 2022) was an American drummer, producer, composer, and bandleader. He led The Golden Palominos, an experimental rock group active from the 1980s to 2010.

On the poppy “So You’d Like to Save the World,” Cole lampoons wide-eyed campus crusaders from the all-knowing vantage of a barstool curmudgeon. Cole’s crack band here includes longtime pals Matthew Sweet, Fred Maher, Anton Fier, and Adam Peters.
