"The Terror from the Depths" is a short story by American writer Fritz Leiber, part of the Cthulhu Mythos genre of horror fiction. It was begun in 1937 but not finished until 1975; it was first published in the anthology The Disciples of Cthulhu in 1976.
Leiber's science fiction includes the planet-smashing The Wanderer in which a large cast mostly survive flood, fire, and the sexual attentions of feline aliens, and the satirical A Spectre is Haunting Texas in which a gangling, exo-skeleton-clad actor from the Moon leads a revolution and finds his true love.

"The Terror From the Depths" is a short story by Fritz Leiber, first published in the 1976 anthology The Disciples of Cthulhu. Leiber reportedly began writing the story in 1937, the year of H. P. Lovecraft's death, but did not complete it until 1975.
The story concerns Georg Reuter Fischer, a young poet and Miskatonic University dropout who dreams obsessively about strange winged worms flying through a network of tunnels under the Pacific Ocean. He seeks help from Miskatonic's Albert Wilmarth--who bears a striking resemblance to Lovecraft, who also figures as an offscreen character in the story...
