Charlie Barnet, American band leader and saxophonist of the swing jazz era. In 1932 he became leader of the band at the Paramount Hotel in New York City and thereafter formed a succession of large and small bands. His best-known songs were ‘Cherokee’ and ‘Skyliner.’ He was one of the era’s most colorful figures.
