Lone Star State of Mind is the fifth studio album released by American musician Nanci Griffith, and her first album for MCA Records. With the album, Griffith's music took a turn from her original folk music base into more commercially viable country music.
Baby is intent on leaving Texas for Los Angeles to be an actress. When Baby's misfit cousin Junior and his recently released ex-con friend Tinker rob a pizza delivery boy and end up with $20,000 of drug money, Baby forces Earl to look after Junior and make things right.
She harmonized on Colvin’s Grammy-winning "Steady On," and on Nanci Griffith’s "Lone Star State of Mind" and "Little Love Affairs." She also landed soundtrack credits, singing with Suzanne Vega on "Pretty in Pink" and with Griffith on "The Firm," and several commercial credits as well—including “The Heartbeat of America” for Chevrolet.
