Checkpoint was inspired by Krakauer’s journey to seek his Jewish roots in Eastern Europe, the one his ancestors in Poland and Russia left at the end of the 19th century. Ancestral Groove crosses the world of klezmer music, jazz, funk, contemporary and electronic music– all for the search for self identity.

Krakauer's album Checkpoint with his 4-piece band Ancestral Groove was released in Europe on March 3, 2014 on Label Bleu. The band supported the album with concerts throughout Europe, including a performance at the grand opening of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews on October 29, 2014.
