Die Musik und der Sound sind sehr energetisch, aufs Nötigste reduziert, manchmal heavy bis brachial, sehr rhythmisch und unbefangen zwingend, natürlich auch dank Copeland; tolle Gitarrensounds, alles sehr direkt und nicht achtzigerlike überproduziert. Das einzig Interessante an "Acting very strange" ist die Tatsache, dass Rutherford sonst nie als Sänger auftratt, was seine gute Gründe hatte. Es geht los mit dem Titeltrack, einem albern stampfenden Song, dessen Vocalparts teilweise an Peter Gabriels simplere Einfälle von seinem dritten und vierten Album erinnern.
