The Rats (1974) is a horror novel by British writer James Herbert. This was Herbert's first novel and included graphic depictions of death and mutilation. Plot. The novel opens by introducing an alcoholic vagrant, resting by a canal. He is suddenly set upon by a pack of black rats the size of small dogs, and devoured alive.
The Rats were an English rock band, first established in 1963, from Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. In 1966, Mick Ronson joined The Rats, then including singer Benny Marshall, bassist Geoff Appleby and drummer Jim Simpson (who was subsequently replaced by Clive Taylor and then John Cambridge).
