The Pontifical College Josephinum is a Roman Catholic seminary and private university in Columbus, Ohio. It was founded by Joseph Jessing in 1888 and was granted the status of a Pontifical College in 1892 by Pope Leo XIII, making it the only pontifical seminary in North America.
As America’s only pontifical seminary, the Josephinum welcomes your interest in our academic programs, both undergraduate and graduate, where qualified candidates are afforded the opportunity to receive the finest possible education and formation for the Catholic priesthood.
After more than a century, the Josephinum, is the only pontifical college in the United States, under the direct supervision of the Holy See 's Congregation for Catholic Education, and was accredited by the Association of Theological Schools in 1970, and by the Higher Learning Commission in 1976.
1. Feb. 2023 · The 2022-2023 formation year of the Pontifical College Josephinum gives every indication of hope for the future of the Church. Fall brought the arrival of 20 new seminarians, an overall enrollment increase and two new sending dioceses.
