The Brotherhood of Breath was an English-South African big band established in the late-1960s by South African pianist and composer Chris McGregor, an extension of McGregor's previous band, The Blue Notes.
Chris McGregor (* 24. Dezember 1936 in Somerset West, Südafrika; † 26. Mai 1990 in Agen (Frankreich)) war ein südafrikanischer Komponist, Pianist und Bandleader. Sein Name ist untrennbar mit der südafrikanisch-europäischen Big Band „The Brotherhood of Breath“ verbunden, die er 1969 in London gründete.
Chris McGregor's Brotherhood of Breath is the debut album by South African pianist and composer Chris McGregor's big band of the same name. Produced by Joe Boyd , it was recorded in 1970, and was issued on LP by the short-lived Neon imprint of RCA Records in 1971 as the label's second release.

27. Okt. 2016 · The South African jazz group the Brotherhood of Breath was founded after the dissolution of the musically and culturally groundbreaking Blue Notes in the 1960s. Like the Blue Notes, the Brotherhood of Breath boasted a multiracial lineup that challenged repressive South African apartheid laws.
16. Sept. 2019 · This new lineup was called the Brotherhood of Breath, which issued namesake albums on Neon/RCA Victor circa 1971/72 and further live and studio titles at sporadic intervals well into the next decade.
