Nach dem Bericht des 1. Buchs Mose (Kapitel 12 ff.) in der Tora bezeichnet das Land Kanaan (eigentlich hebräisch אֶרֶץ כְּנַעַן ärätz kena‘an, deutsch ‚Land Kanaans‘) das Abraham und seinen Nachkommen versprochene Land ( Gelobtes Land ).
Darin versprach Gott dem Volk Israel ein eigenes Land. Laut Überlieferung nannte er es das gelobte oder verheißene Land. Das war das Land Kanaan. Es liegt ungefähr im heutigen Israel.
