For the original lineup, he enlisted guitarist/singer Nick Gravenites, bassist Harvey Brooks, drummer Buddy Miles, keyboardist Barry Goldberg, saxophonist Peter Strazza, trumpeter Mark Doubleday, and violinist Bob Notkoff.
