Waterson in 2016. Waterson married Martin Carthy in 1972. Their daughter Eliza was born in 1975. She was awarded the MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in the Queen's 2003 New Year Honours, for her services to folk music. Waterson died on 30 January 2022, at the age of 82. She had been suffering from pneumonia.
