midnight & indigo's literary journal is dedicated to short stories and narrative essays written by Black women writers. To date, our 10 issues feature collective works by 300+ emerging and established Black storytellers across the U.S., Africa, the Caribbean, Europe, Canada, Asia, and Australia.
Featuring new short stories by eight emerging and established Black women storytellers from the U.S., Africa, and the Caribbean, this issue introduces characters discovering self and defining relationships, negotiating with the past, and celebrating the things no one else understands.

Short Stories. In “The Outing” by Itoro Bassey, a Nigerian-American woman navigates family, sexuality, trauma, and her need for independence. “Makers of Men” by Christine Hill explores the Black woman’s burden in ensuring the well-being of Black men.
midnight & indigo is the fulfillment of a young girl’s dream, manifest in the woman she grew up to become. Launched in December 2018, midnight & indigo is a literary platform, both print and digital, dedicated to publishing short stories and narrative essays by Black women writers.
