Nachdem er 1978 im Fernsehdrama Der Geisterzug von Clematis mitspielte, erlangte Keays-Byrne seine weltweit bekannteste Rolle: Als „Toecutter“ im australischen Endzeitfilm Mad Max aus dem Jahr 1979, für dessen Verkörperung er für den AACTA Award als bester Nebendarsteller nominiert wurde.
Hugh Keays-Byrne (18 May 1947 – 2 December 2020) was a British-Australian actor. Between 1968 and 1972 he was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company. He played the antagonist in two films from the Mad Max franchise: Toecutter in Mad Max (1979), [1] and Immortan Joe in Mad Max: Fury Road (2015). [1]
Hugh became noticed after roles in Stone (1974), Mad Dog Morgan (1976) and The Trespassers (1976). He landed his first leading role in TV film The Death Train (1978), and year later he became internationally well-known for his role of Toecutter in highly praised apocalyptic SF film Mad Max (1979).
