Hans Walter Conrad Veidt (* 22. Januar 1893 in Berlin; [1] † 3. April 1943 in Hollywood, Kalifornien, USA) war ein deutscher Schauspieler. Berühmt machte ihn 1920 die Rolle des Cesare im Filmklassiker Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari.
Hans Walter Conrad Veidt (/ f aɪ t /; 22 January 1893 – 3 April 1943) was a German-British actor. [3] [4] He attracted early attention for his roles in the films Different from the Others (1919), The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920), and The Man Who Laughs (1928).
Actor: Casablanca. Conrad Veidt attended the Sophiengymnasium (secondary school) in the Schoeneberg district of Berlin, and graduated without a diploma in 1912, last in his class of 13. Conrad liked animals, theater, cinema, fast cars, pastries, thunderstorms, gardening, swimming and golfing.

Veidt appeared in Germany's first talking picture, Bride 68 (1929), and made only one color picture, The Thief of Bagdad (1940), filmed in England and Hollywood. His most famous role was as Gestapo Maj. Strasser in the classic Casablanca (1942) ; although he was not the star of the picture, he was the highest paid actor.
A little over 50 years later, on April 3, 1943, the avid golfer died of a heart attack while playing his favorite game on the Riviera Country Club golf course in Los Angeles. Major Strasser (Conrad Veidt), left, is officially greeted upon his arrival in Casablanca.
