12. Mai 2018 · Martyn Rooney initially trained and competed at the middle distance events of 800m and 1500m and also participated in cross country events throughout the winter months. His talent for the 400m was discovered by coincidence when he was asked to make up some points for his club at a London fixture.
A mainstay on the anchor leg of the Great Britain 4x400m relay team, Martyn won silver at the World Championships in 2009 and then bronze at the 2015 and 2017 editions. He made his second Olympic appearance at London 2012 competing in both the individual and relay events, and finishing fourth again in the latter.
