Rouben Mamoulian was a director and writer of Armenian origin, known for Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931), Applause (1929) and Becky Sharp (1935). He was born in Tiflis, Russian Empire (now Tbilisi, Georgia) in 1897 and died in Los Angeles in 1987.
