There have been at least four film adaptations of the novel. The BBC produced three television series: one week of Jackanory in 1965, another written by John Tully that aired in 1976, and finally The Phoenix and the Carpet (1997), with a new screenplay by Helen Cresswell.
The Phoenix and the Carpet is a BBC Television adaption of the 1904 book of the same name by E. Nesbit about four children in Edwardian England who acquire a phoenix and the adventures they have as a result. The six-part serial was first broadcast in 1997 and starred David Suchet as the Phoenix.
The Phoenix and the Carpet: Mit Jane Forster, Max Harris, Tamzin Neville, Gary Russell Four children discover a strange egg hidden in an old carpet from which hatches a talking phoenix. Further adventures are had when the carpet turns out to be magic.
