The Grasscutter is a 1988 film directed by Ian Mune and written by Roy Mitchell. Synopsis. A landscape architect (Cooper) living in New Zealand finds that his past catches up with him.
As a member of the Ulster Volunteer Force, Brian Deeds (Belfast-born actor Ian McElhinney) grassed on 23 fellow terrorists in Northern Ireland. Now living in New Zealand under a new identity, Deeds has to come clean to his girlfriend (Judy McIntosh) when a hit squad arrives in town for him.
The Grasscutter isn't a film you'll watch over and over again, but provides a lot of tension, flashes of extreme violence, and sticks in a few twists to boot. There's a lot of family drama thrown in there too, as out hero's ex-wife isn't too happy at him betraying his fellow country men, but it turns out he had good reason to do so.
