The short documentary Diary of a Sergeant chronicles Russell's journey to becoming skilled in using claw-like prostheses, returning home, getting a girlfriend, and enrolling in college. While it is a government propaganda film with a call to buy bonds, Diary of a Sergeant is nonetheless an educational and inspiring look at the veteran's recovery.
