Handlung. Erzählt aus der Perspektive von Neal Cassady (Thomas Jane), in Form eines Briefes, folgt der Film seinem Leben vor und nach dem Selbstmordversuch seiner langjährigen Geliebten Joan (Claire Forlani).
The film is based on Robert Stone 's novel Dog Soldiers (1974), and stars Nick Nolte as Ray Hicks. Stone based the character of Hicks on Beat writer Neal Cassady. Stone became acquainted with Cassady through novelist Ken Kesey, a classmate of Stone in graduate school at Stanford University.
The film explores the love triangle of real-life characters Neal Cassady, Jack Kerouac, and Carolyn Cassady in the late 1950s and the 1960s. It chronicles Kerouac writing his seminal novel On the Road, and its effect on their lives.
