A cast of British stage luminaries (Irene Vanbrugh, Johnston Forbes-Robertson, Gladys Cooper) gives this Georgian period caper - with its errant husband, scheming love rival and poor poet, all caught in the tempestuous orbit of the feted actress - a touch of much-needed class.
A stodgy British melodrama set amongst the Covent Garden theatre players about a young farmer in London on business who forsakes his wife for the love of a dame of the theatre (a too old Irene Vanbrugh). Quite ambitious in terms of costume design (it's set in 1740) but the direction is crude even for 1917 and the plot is desperately slow.
