Curtis Ousley (born Curtis Montgomery; February 7, 1934 – August 13, 1971), [1] known professionally as King Curtis, was an American saxophonist who played rhythm and blues, jazz, and rock and roll. A bandleader, band member, and session musician, he was also a musical director and record producer.

King Curtis was the last of the great R&B tenor sax giants. Born Curtis Ousley in Fort Worth, Texas, he came to prominence in the mid-'50s as a session musician in New York, recording, at one time or another, for most East Coast R&B labels.
King Curtis is still by far, the most influential saxophone player in the history of R&B and Rock & Roll music. King Curtis played on thousands of records as the most in demand saxophone player, from the early 1950s until his death in August of 1971.
